Extractions

Tooth extractions involve the removal of a tooth from its socket in the jawbone. Teeth may need to be extracted for various reasons, such as the presence of extra teeth, creating space before orthodontic treatment, infection, or when a tooth can no longer be predictably repaired.

Removing a tooth can cause adjacent teeth to shift, potentially leading to other dental issues. Commonly, neighbouring teeth may move into the empty space, allowing food to become trapped and increasing the risk of cavities. Additionally, the opposing tooth may gradually over-erupt into the extraction site, becoming taller than the surrounding teeth. This imbalance can interfere with chewing and jaw movements, potentially contributing to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. Correcting these complications after the fact can be time-consuming and costly, making it important to have a plan in place to replace the extracted tooth promptly.
